Dear Gene,

My dear friend Gene Bertoncini passed away on August 29, 2026. One of the legendary jazz guitarists, he was an innovator of the use of the classical nylon string guitar in jazz, had deep chops in Brazilian jazz as well as super-swinging music, the best jokes, and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Here’s a little letter I wrote to him a few days after he died.
